Introducing...Emma Riches

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in the lead up to the Schools Spec? Get ready to follow Emma Riches as she wiggles her way through the 2011 Schools Spectacular!

What do you get when you cross dancing, singing and piano-playing? Meet Emma Riches, the 17 year-old Schools Spectacular veteran who’s been a part of the extravaganza for five long years! Dancing since she was three years-old virtually across all styles, she hopes her talents will help her to land a career in musical theatre or professional performance in the near future.

Despite taking lessons three-four times a week, she can’t stop herself from having a constant wiggle around the house! Emma is driven by all artists who bring their performances to life by showing a strong connection to their piece, and hopes to someday inspire someone in the same way. She says there is a lot to learn from other performers to grow: ‘I try not to stay too focused on myself and just take in everything’.

This year will feature Emma’s dancing talents in various ensembles including the NSW Public Schools Senior Dance Company and she considers the festival her biggest accomplishment: ‘The atmosphere at Schools Spec is huge!’ She also says it’s helped her gain great confidence. Juggling her HSC and Schools Spec this year, we just can’t wait to see what exciting surprises she’s got in store for us!
